“Activate Your Summer Shield” from The American Institute for Cancer Research & SuperKids Nutrition

What:

A fun program to teach kids about healthy nutrition and lifestyle habits

For:

Kids from K – 5

To be run by:

Educators at Summer Camps, Summer Schools, Extension and Day Care Programs

Parents at home

Overview:

During summer, kids often have lessstructured schedules leading to less activity and fewer healthy food choices. So for 6 weeks this summer, commit to helping them eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans and stay active — with the help of our 6 toolkits below.

Each toolkit focuses on a healthy topic and comes packed with nutrition basics, a kid-friendly recipe and a fun activity.  You can complete all the activities in each tool kit, or pick only the activity that will work for your age group and environment.

Throughout the 6 weeks of summer, use the “Activate Your Summer Shield with the Super Crew’s Tracker,” to encourage kids to write down one goal per week and track their progress with their family and friends.

Toolkits:

  1. 1 Eat Powerful Plant Foods
  2. 2 Go for Whole Grains
  3. 3 Healthy Protein Muscle Builders
  4. 4 Get Active
  5. 5 Shop for Healthy Groceries
  6. 6 Fruit and Veggie Cancer Fighters

How to Use the Program:

Use one toolkit per week to help kids focus on a specific area of health.

Read all the toolkit components and pick the activities that work for your group or family,   over the 6 weeks of summer or do the complete lesson plan. Print the number of activity sheets you will need.

Download and print the “Activate Your Summer Shield with the Super Crew’s Tracker”. Follow the daily tips and encourage kids to write out a weekly goal to activate their shield.
