Details: This website starts with instructions on how to use the website resources within the classroom. With a "lessons at a glance" section, resources are listed according to grade level and subject matter making for easy navigation through the lesson plans. The lesson plans are designed to provide comprehensive action oriented delivery of nutrition information while emphasizing the standards and benchmarks (Louisiana) established for the basic subjects. Activities range from singing songs to learn pronunciation of words. One activity explores the students' creative side by having them create advertisements for foods. Lesson objectives, student expectations, materials required, approximate durations, and interdisciplinary connections are easily located on the lesson plan. In addition, assessment worksheets and lesson plan accommodations/modifications are provided. To extend learning beyond the normal curriculum, extension activities are also included.
Solange Bushra Wasef MS, RD is a Registered Dietitian with dual bachelor's degrees in biochemistry and chemistry who graduated with honors. She also has earned her master's degree in nutritional science. Currently, she is a lecturer at California State University, Los Angeles. She also is involved in promoting nutrition education as well as performs counseling in the areas of weight management.
